February 2022 Meeting (Zoom)

Our February Meeting was held via Zoom

Our guest speaker was Catherine Redford, who entertained us with her talk, "Lessons learned While Quilting."  She is a fiber artist who zoomed to us from Illinois.  Born in England, she moved to Illinois where she discovered quilting.  She has worked with many techniques and materials and today she works with embellishments such as beads and three-dimensional pieces of fabric and has received numerous awards.  She is known for her innovation and originality and her embellishments and free motion quilting.

She will be hosting a workshop on Saturday via zoom entitled,
Walking Foot Quilting - Beyond the Ditch.

Our Show and Tell was prepared by Tina from photos members sent her.  Thank you Tina!

Barb N. shared her Bioblitz quilt created out of twenty years of T-shirts.  The quilt is about 10 x 5 feet and was created for a Natural History group. Her sashing reminds us of tree bark, keeping in mind the natural history theme.  Very nice memento!

Molly O. has completed a colorful heart quilt, measuring about 60 x 60"
Just in time for Valentine's Day!

Merri completed a project from a workshop, "Making Faces"
and experimented with a self-portrait.
She playfully exaggerated her hair as a bird nest...

...where birds are bringing worms. That is quite an expression on her face!  Oh my!

Merri longarmed her piece herself as seen in this photo.

Laurel N. has completed - and just in time for the baby shower - a quilt with a nautical theme.  Sailboats, anchors, and a whale adorn this quilt we are sure
her grandson will adore as much as we did!

Saturday m
Morning Sewing put together quite a few blocks of the month.
The block definitely makes a wonderful design when many blocks are put together!

Jackie B. presented this quilt created with earth tone fabrics.
Nicely done!

Tina C. made Hexed Stars- each half star is sewn within half a a hexagon, then sewn together to create a hexagon block.  This technique uses foundation paper piecing!
Great job piecing those tiny points!

Karen R shared a table runner based on nine patch she made for work to brighten things up for February.  Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
