Summer Postcard Exchange

We had so much fun with this summer's POSTCARD EXCHANGE!

Members signed up to participate and were sent a member's name and address. So....it was a surprise to find out who your fabric postcard would be from!

Our postcards were mailed on or around July 1 so many of us decided to use a Summer theme.

Members shared their postcards on our guild Facebook page so everyone could see the variety of cards created!

I can't  wait until the next one!

Show and Tell from our June meeting

Suzanne W shares a table runner created with soft colors.

Suzanne W shows a quilt she made that is "Christmasy but not too Christmasy"

Kate C created this sweet wool applique quilt. The flowers are beautiful.  Look closely and you shall see embellishment with beads and embroidery.

A close up of Kate 's wool quilt

Betsey W created a quilt with dahlia flowers.  She sews Monday at the local library.  The librarian helped Betsey choose dahlia colors, as inspired by the bouquet of dahlias that were on display at the library.

Betsey's dahlia quilt

Betsey create this piece using ruler work.  Jenny P showed her how to create this design.  The class is offered at Shoreline Sewing Machines in Stonington CT

A group project by three members

Pattern by Barbara C - from the workshop she provided for our guild.  Members learned to use repeated shapes in a quilt design

These two quilts are made with strips and were made for grandchildren.  They came together quickly because the quilt is created by sewing strips together.  One is a firefighter theme because the child's father is a fireman.
Didn't Pat F do a great job?!?

Bev O created this quilt with many pieces from a Bonnie Hunter pattern.

Jane C shared her quilt from our Barbara Chojnacki workshop.  The pattern is called, "Random Acts of Happiness."

A quilt created by our Community Outreach - to be donated

Purples with dragonflies

If you look closely, you can see the quilting is kites and tails

A beautiful quilt made to be donated to the community.  Piano keys border with friendship stars.

This quilt has a variety of blocks - houses, stars, and more.  what a nice gift to be donated!

A lively quilt from Outreach to be donated locally.

This is a beautiful scrappy quilt that will be donated locally.
We love to gather and visit as friends who love quilting!

Our guest speaker was so happy to win a box of gorgeous threads.

Our Ways and Means committee organizes a raffle that occurs during our meeting. Lots of materials and notions and books are donated and happy winners get to bring home their treasures!

We just love to shop at our Ways and Means table!

Don't forget our quilt show is coming this fall!!!!

Our speaker, Jan Doyle,  taught us how to improve our photography using a smart phone.

May 2023

                                      Our May Meeting:

We had a great time with friends, our own guest speaker, Tina C who spoke about Barn quilts, signing up for workshops, sharing our work, and more!

O my !
Ginny G has finished her quilted jacket she worked on during a recent workshop wit Rhode Island Fiber Artist, Veronica Mays.  Look at the seahorses on her sleeves.  How beautiful!  WOW!
To learn more about Veronica Mays see her website Conaky'sQuilts

Molly shared her Blooming Nine Patch where she used fabrics that
transitioned through color changes.  Nice job, Molly!

Close up:

Blaire pointed out tiny triangles in the corners of her blocks
that create a special look to her quilt.

A very nice scrappy quilt!

Blaire's quilt has a border of strips often called a piano key border.  Her background fabrics create interest because they are different.

Merri completed this top and she got all her points to meet!  Yay Merri!

Betsy W made this quilt along with a friend so she could show her friend how to cut the same shapes out of different fabrics to make this pattern.  Nice teamwork, Betsy!

Pat G shared her very interesting quilt made of jelly rolls!
Super work!

A Snail Trail Quilt made by Paula
who worked hard to keep squares straight so that pieces would meet nicely.
It came out great!

Margaret S created this quilt with a variety of browns and beiges.

It has a nice backing too!

Tara works with friends who practice working with tiny pieces.
Her teeny pincushion is so sweet!

Mary Kay and Tara finished this quilt together.  It was given to Mary Kay from one of her neighbors.  What a joy to see this quilt completed by this team!

A wonderful Patriotic Quilt made by Margaret S!

Such beautiful colors have been combined in this quilt by Margaret S!

Margaret also combines nice bright greens and even plaids for this very cozy quilt.

Jane C has wowed us once again with her longarming skills!  WOW!

Our Pat G created a Quilt based on Disney's movie, Frozen by using cloth books.  What a great idea!

The following are quilts made by our Outreach Committee. members of our guild work as a team to create quilts that are donated locally.

Tina C spoke to us about Barn Quilts and led us through a website that helps us find these painted wooden blocks that are in just about every state.

Tina held a workshop for our guild where members
painted their own wooden quilt blocks.

Tina painted these beautiful wooden blocks.

We have a wonderful library where guild members can borrow books,
templates, and stencils.

Members study the items brought in that were donated to ways and means

Our future programs brought to us by hard-working Tina C and Sharon D!

SO much to do at our meeting! Sign up for workshops, sign up for the postcard exchange, pick up flyers for our Quilt Show 2023 and visit with our friends!
