April 2022 Meeting

Tina shares information about the upcoming May BBB block of the month 

using EPP (English Paper Piecing). 

Tina will provide a demonstration on zoom explaining the process for guild members.

These April BBB  blocks are beautifully done!

A Round Robin quilting project  was introduced to the guild. 

Your quilt will start with you, and can be blocks or medallion style where the design goes around the center piece as it grows.  You pass the quilt on for the next six months to other people in your group to add to it and before you know it you have a quilt.  It is a great way to meet your Ninigret members!

Sewing Saturday March 2022

 Members met for a Saturday sew and worked on Blooming nine patch quilts, Blocks of the Month and various projects. We loved sewing together and spent time visiting and sharing ideas.

Outreach donates to Safe Futures

These lovely quilts, made by guild members, were recently donated to Safe Futures, a social services organization in New London, CT.  Thank you to Jane L. for arranging and making this special delivery. 

 

Safe Futures saves lives, restores hope and changes the future for those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and trafficking in southeastern Connecticut.  A partial list of the services offered includes legal assistance, camp programs, counseling, housing resources, support groups, education and awareness programs, and a career and training center. March 2022 Meeting: Meet the Board

 During the March meeting board members shared stories and their work so we could get to know more about them and the kinds of quilting they create.  We saw quite a variety of wonderful pieces and heard many funny and interesting stories.

Tora S. created a trellis and added flowers on top.

Nicole repurposed a book, The Giving Tree, and uses it as a journal with photos about her quilts. She notes in her journal who received the quilts.

"I take this quilt everywhere."

Terry W. said she did not use a pattern for this quilt of trees.

Heidi K. added birds and created her own border in this hand appliqued quilt.

Pat G. won grand champion at the South County fair with her quilt made of neutral doilies.

March 2022 Meeting: Show and Tell and BOM

We met by Zoom in January and February.  

Here are January, February, and March BOMs!

Our members shared their quilts during Show and Tell.

So many quilts were made this winter!

We saw scrappy, work from new quilters, work from retreats, pieced quilts, moons and loons, nine patch, applique, and strips and squares.

So much variety and so much fun!

Quilts presented at Habitat for Humanity House Dedication

 During a South County Habitat for Humanity Home Dedication in Exeter, RI on March 2, Nicole presented three quilts to Virginia and her two children as they begin their life in their new home.

"A house becomes a home when there is a quilt on every bed."

Virginia completed her own volunteer hours, and completed New Homeowner training with Habitat. She did this while working three jobs as a Certified Nursing Assistant and taking care of her family, in the midst of a pandemic. The process took four years- longer due to covid.
