August Show and Tell

Fabric postcards that celebrate summer
from our secret swap were fun to see!

Show and Tell by our members

Tina shared this quilt where she combined a number of different blocks
that she did not use in other projects.
We will be having a workshop, "Kitchen Table Math" presented by Amy Friend to learn how to assemble and organize blocks of different sizes and shapes.
Contact ninigretquilters@gmail.com
for more info.

These quilts have been created by our members for our Outreach Committee
and will be donated locally.  Nice job, everyone!!!

Nicole and Pat hold up the Outreach Quilts.

Beautiful colors and Quilting!

A baby quilt is a treasure.

What a nice quilt!

Amazing!  Great job, Outreach Committee!
Whoever gets these quilts will be very lucky indeed!

Show and Tell
Quilts by our Members!
Betsey W shares a hexagon quilt that combines many colors very effectively!

Mary shared a quilt of embroidered redwork squares she received and put together to complete a beautiful quilt.

Jane C brought in a quilt made by her great-grandmother 60 years ago.
The quilt by Jane's great-grandmother is machine pieced, and hand quilted.

Ginny painted these barn quilts in a workshop with Tina C.

Nancy L had a lot of fun making triangles....I think!

And more triangles by Nancy!

Merri combined 709 triangle in this three-dimensional design.  The texture she created with pebble quilting is perfect for this quilt!

Tara T made this quilt with a bee theme for her brother
who is a long time beekeeper.

Great choice of fabrics! The pattern is called, "A Box of Stars"

The stars are made with different fabric combinations to create a lovely effect.

Do you see the bee?

Of course Tara made more blocks that resemble a beehive.

Isn't this great!

Linda surprised us with her "Everything Under the Sea" quilt. She added pieces of fabric in a very unique and creative way.

Look at the ruffled border!  What fun!

Linda kept adding fabrics and ideas to her quilt - front and back!

Pat G combined these improv blocks but just might cut them apart
 to  be even more improvisational!

Pat G finished this quilt for a wedding. Very strong design!

Tina and Pat hold up quilts for all to see.

And our Quilt Show
is going to be held in October!!!

August Guest Speaker, Cindy Griselda on Artful Improv, and Workshop

Our guest speaker, Cindy Grisdela, spoke about artful improvisational quilting.  She talked about color harmonies and ways to use color in an improv piece.

These are examples Cindy shared at our meeting.

She shared many ways to sew curves.

Maria always amazes us with her bold and thoughtful work!

We worked on different combinations of fabrics and colors to create the effect we wanted.

There are so many options of combining our blocks.

Heidi experimented with  light and dark color and different ways to assemble the blocks.

Blair's work
is always amazing.

Pat combined some fantastic colors and textures.

Linda made intrinsic choices to combine tiny pieces as an accent strip.

We had fun sharing and learning together.

Complementary colors really are effective in this piece.

Cindy Griselda shares advice with Blair.

We used design boards to plan our arrangement.

Cindy discussed color, curves, piecing, and effects with colors and textures as we listened
 to her expert explanations.

Curves and colors will change the effects of your piece.

Combining and arranging blocks was an important part of the workshop,
as demonstrated by Cindy.

Using all batiks was very successful.

We really concentrated on our work.

Tina got her top completed during the workshop on her featherweight.

Cindy was a wonderful speaker and we all felt very comfortable learning about curves in the workshop.  Everyone had their own ideas and the results were beautiful!
