Here are some scenes from our May meeting.
Betsey W. won the 22 BOMs (Blocks of the Month) that were made with hexagons, known as hexies in the quilters' world. Members enjoyed learning this very popular process of working with English Paper Piecing (EPP) as they made hexies that can be put together to create a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt, coaster, table runner, and more. Creating quilts using hexies is a traditional form of quilting that has become quite popular again recently.
I wonder what Block of the Month we will be working on for the June meeting!
Our speaker was Betsy Habich from Beverly, Massachusetts
who shared her art quilts in a trunk show
and gave her presentation entitled,
“Piecing a Picture Quilt: Photo to Finished Quilt”
She uses a photograph as a source, creates her own pattern,
and playfully pieces her work using carefully selected fabrics and defining shapes.
Her work ranges from using pictures of her nephews to using images of cats and animals,
flowers, landscapes and more.
Betsy will be presenting a workshop to guild members on May 11.
