March Meeting with Marie Bostwick

It was our great privilege to welcome Marie Bostwick as our guest speaker. Her lecture entitled "When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Turn to Quilting" was entertaining and deeply moving. We laughed and cried with Marie as she told stories from her own life, those of her readers and some of the characters in her books.

Of course, we were eager to see some of her quilts, as well.

Many of her quilts were designed by Deb Tucker and draw from events in her books. Register for free on Marie's website, then login to access the free patterns and recipes.

Marie passed out a few of these bags. I think we all need one!

Following the lecture, Marie signed copies of her books for members and fans.

After so many snow days/sew days, there was plenty of eye candy for show and tell! Lots of projects were completed from recent (and not-so-recent) Ninigret workshops.

Barbara C completed her piece from the Thomas Knauer class last month. The triangles represent the dots in Braille, spelling out star stuff.

Barbara participated in Beth Helfter's facebook group "Drop and Give Me 20." The challenge was to sew (or cut, design, dream about quilts) for at least 20 minutes a day, every day in February. Barb was able to complete her Anita's Arrowhead top from Anita Grossman Solomon's visit in 2013.

Tora finished a Christmas theme top that she will donate to a hospital fundraiser in Ohio.

Linda K finished a sweet little quilt that she started in a class with Barbara.

Linda also completed a quilt for her son's boat using fun novelty prints.

Margaret finished her Braille quilt, too. She made it for her grandson's new apartment and included a message from nana.

Joyce made some place mats to donate,

and a fun shamrock wall hanging for St. Patrick's Day.

Elvia completed her spools top as a leader/ender project. There are 648 spool blocks! Click here for the Bonnie Hunter pattern. We're looking forward to seeing Bonnie again in 2016.

Pat H played with jelly roll strips and double inset circles for her quilt "Plenty of Monsters."

Berta used a daffodil pattern from the doodle quilting class with  Linda Ramrath to create some Springtime.

Berta also completed her project from the Marianne Hatton workshop.

Mary R made a sweet quilt for a great-great niece due in April. (This adorable fabric does not photograph well.  Click here to see it more clearly.)

Jenn was given some of her grandmother's stash, so Jenn made a quilt for grandma's 88th birthday, ensuring Jenn's status as favorite grandchild! Do you think grandma will like the title "Hip to Strip?"

Kate also participated in Drop and Give Me 20. She's been cleaning out her sewing room, working on her Anita's Arrowhead, and stitching up these intricate wool ornaments. The patterns are being offered on the Wool Applique Group on facebook.

Nancy B made matching Sue minis for a new set of twins.

Nancy also completed this lovely medallion quilt titled "Eggs and Hens." She prefers to hand quilt without a hoop.

Tina finished her friendship star quilt using last year's swap blocks.

She also finished her Hawaiian applique pillow from the class with Janet Elia last summer. Janet will be back in August to teach trapunto.

If you've made it all the way to the end of this post, you deserve a treat! This quilt top will be raffled off to our quilt show volunteers! All you have to do is volunteer to help with any aspect of the show and your name will go in the hat. Please contact Ellie to add your name to the list!
