Thomas Knauer will be visiting Ninigret Quilters in February for a trunk show and workshop. Thomas is a quilter, fabric designer and author. A math geek with advanced art degrees, he brings a fresh perspective to quiltmaking. The title of his book perfectly illustrates this. Modern Quilt Perspectives: 12 Patterns for Meaningful Quilts. Please visit his website to learn more about Thomas and his quilts.
Thomas will present a lecture and trunk show on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 7:00pm at the Westerly Senior Center on State Street. The lecture is free for members, $5 for guests.
On Wednesday, February 11, Thomas will teach a full day workshop entitled Quilting with Code.
9am-3:30pm,
St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 15 East Beach Rd, Charlestown, RI. $50 for members, $60 for non-members. To register, members should contact Kate or Barbara. Non-members may email the guild for more information at ninigretquilters@gmail.com.
Every
quilt tells a story, says something, but in this workshop that statement
becomes literally true. You will explore different ways of using Braille as a
basis for designing blocks, and then using those blocks to make quilts with
hidden meaning. While the finished quilts end up looking thoroughly modern and
abstract; beneath that surface will be a message; whether it is personal or
political, or a little bit of both is up to you. In this workshop students will
be designing their own Braille mini using a word or phrase of their choosing.
